The Citroen approved FlexiLite™ lightweight minibus has been designed with the needs of community transport providers front of mind. This is why it was the first choice for Centre 81, serving those who are unable to access traditional public transport.
Established over 35 years ago, Centre 81 runs a thriving skills and activity centre and a successful community transport service. Based in Great Yarmouth, the charity currently operates 11 minibuses and approached Allied Fleet to help them replace some of their vehicles. Last month, the organisation took delivery of their second FlexiLite™ minibus so we caught up with Brian Price, business development manager at Centre 81, to find out how they’re getting on.
Lightweight Minibus Options
Brian said: “We were keen to find a suitable vehicle that we could spec to meet our exact needs, and it ended up being a FlexiLite minibus. It’s nice to drive, very responsive and meets all of our requirements with no difficulties.”
The charity was looking for a wheelchair accessible minibus for their busy community transport service, so they required maximum carrying capacity, wheelchair access and a whole host of additional features to make journeys more comfortable. With over 656 community transport members it was important that their users’ needs were met.
The first FlexiLite™ minibus with space for up to nine passengers and up to four wheelchairs, was delivered to Centre 81 in August last year. They were so pleased with the minibus that they ordered a second and hope to eventually replace their entire fleet.
Brian was delighted with how easy it was to order a lightweight minibus and add on specific options including an inboard passenger tail lift with remote control, air conditioning, rear heating, reverse parking sensors, dash cam and sat-nav. Following member feedback the charity also decided to add arm rests to all seats on their second minibus.
Brian said: “When I drove the first minibus, what really stuck in my mind was how secure the front seats felt with arm rests, so on the second vehicle we specified arm rests on all the seats.
“Our community transport members regard the service as their ‘social club on wheels’ so it’s important that they like the vehicles as much as we do. Members have mentioned they feel safe in the vehicle and our drivers enjoy driving it. They were part of the decision-making process and really like the FlexiLite minibuses.”
“The service from Allied Fleet and our local fleet sales manager has been first class.”
FlexiLite™ gives you a safety tested, road-ready minibus that can be driven with a standard car licence. All lightweight minibuses from Allied Fleet come with the added reassurance of an Individual Vehicle Approval (IVA) certificate, independently verified by a Driver and Vehicle Safety Standards Agency (DVSA) appointed test centre.
If you’re not sure exactly what configuration you’re looking for, or like Centre 81 you require specific options, we’ll work with you to design your lightweight minibus to ensure it best matches your needs, with all legal requirements taken care of.
Brian added: “The service from Allied Fleet and our local fleet sales manager, Justin, has been first class. The support and admin staff worked through what we needed quickly and efficiently. We looked at different companies, but we felt Allied listened to what we needed and presented us with a vehicle that works for us.
