Community Transport Group Expands with Lottery Grant

April 4, 2019

North Norfolk Community Transport (NNCT) are set to expand their services thanks to an incredible £120,000 lottery grant.

The transport charity caters to the local community of Norfolk by providing valuable services to those who require extra support when travelling.

Triumphant Trips

Last year, NNCT provided an outstanding 17,500 trips to those without wheelchair accessible cars or who have limited accessibility to public transport due to poor health or certain disabilities.

The North Walsham-based community transport group have decided to set up a three-year project to boost the variety of excursions for people who face loneliness.

The service runs special excursions to some of Norfolk’s main attractions, including Sandringham Flower Show and boat trips.

Community Services

One of the groups most popular services, ‘Dial-a-Ride’, provides convenient pick-up and drop-off for those who have limited transport solutions.

A minibus service for school pupils and college students operates alongside a volunteer and accessible car scheme.

Claire Abbs, Chief Executive of NNCT, describes the transport group as being a vital lifeline that provides members of the community wider outdoor access.

Claire said: “We’re so pleased to have successfully secured Lottery funding for this project.

“The difference these trips make to people’s lives is incredible and now we can reach so many more people who are at risk of being lonely and isolated across rural North Norfolk.”

Expanding Transport

The extra funding provided by the National Lottery Community Fund will support extra services for its expansion plans.

Claire added: “Whilst the trips are about getting out to new destinations, they’re also about making new friends and connections and really helping people feel less lonely.”

The transport group depends on generous grants and kind donations to continue running all services and cover the costs for vehicles out on the road.
