Allied Fleet has recently invested over £2 million in a new production hall to double the build capacity of our wheelchair accessible minibus conversions. To support this growth we’ve also taken on a number of production staff including Catherine Robertson, a minibus production team leader. We caught up with Catherine to find out more about her new role.
Hi Catherine, how are you getting on in your new role?
I’ve now been working here for ten weeks and I’m really enjoying the new challenge. I have over 18 years’ experience in manufacturing so Allied was the perfect place to move to.
What does a normal working day look like in production?
We work Monday to Thursday, 7am – 6pm, which is a great shift pattern as we get three-day weekends! A typical day starts with a team meeting which allows everyone to get together and discuss what’s expected, including conversion targets and health & safety standards.
Our shifts are always packed so it’s important that I ensure the team is safely and efficiently carrying out their work on our FlexiLite™ production line. We currently have a target of converting ten of our Peugeot and Citroen approved FlexiLite™ minibuses each week.
There’s five stages on the line in order to complete our conversions. Each stage is allocated to a specific team member so it’s vital that the whole team communicate and work well together, and a big part of my role is making sure this happens.
What are the biggest challenges you face in your role?
I have an important role to play in managing a calm and efficient working environment. This can be quite challenging when everything is very much go-go-go. However, we have a great team who understand what is expected of them and work hard to meet their targets.
And finally, what do you enjoy most?
I love the variety of tasks that come with my job. Each day brings new challenges and there’s always something to keep you busy. Supervising a team of hard workers is very rewarding and everyone is helpful. I’m the only woman in the department which could be quite intimidating, but all of the team are very welcoming and have made me feel at home. I’m really enjoying my time working with the company.
